5/22/08 - Girl Scouts ROCK!

Being a Girl Scout Leader for my daughter's Brownie Troop, I know how much fun it is to spend the time with the girls and learn the partnership between the scouts and the adults. Not only do the girls build a long life friendship, but the Girl Scout program emphasizes "Girl Power!"...to build self esteem, confidence and to help them succeed in the day to day activities as they go through the different stages in life.

I had the pleasure to be invited to one of the older Girl Scout troops...Cadette Troop 5 with the Sacramento Buddhist Church. What a GREAT group of girls. They asked if I could come to one of their meetings since they were working on earning the "Paper Works" Badge. One of the criteria is to interview someone who is in the "paper" industry or has knowledge of working with paper goods (printer, retail store owner, etc). I was shocked to hear some of the girls' questions...they were serious and the questions were such thought out questions. Well, after the interview...I could not let them go without doing a little project! They each made a journal book using some "Girl Scout" scrapbooking papers, rubber stamps, embellishments and die cuts. With a composition book and a little pen attached....they had a personalized journal book!

In order for me to attend their meeting, it meant that I had to miss one of my troop meetings (since we met on the same night) but there were reasons behind it! I had two goals...one, to voice my story about how I came to this path in owning a scrapbooking store...but really, to let them know that if they work hard...never let their dreams go...and empower themselves with the up most confidence, they can do just about anything. Two, is because I am a true believer in programs like these...to help your child grow with confidence and "try" new things without the pressure of everyday society...that is what Girl Scout's is all about. I had a blast...and it was all because I really felt these girls' efforts and sincere appreciation for what I call..."my dream come true" story.

P.S Come by the shop to see our selection of Girl and Boy Scouting papers and embellishments. Also, see some of our projects that we've done for other troops and dens. If you need to fulfill an activity for scouting, we can help your troop or den...just give us a call!

5/22/2008 - Dillion Beach...

As the girls are busy blogging and thinking of more great ideas...I decided to take some down time to just "hang out" with my family (I know, what a slacker huh!). We went to this little town called Dillon Beach (by Bodega Bay). My cousin Mary and her husband (Hi Mare!) own this Beach House called "Sea Glass"...it was so cute! This picture says it all...the sunset was amazing.

My kiddos had a blast! It's was a bit windy (not to mention 15 degrees colder then Elk Grove) but we made the best of it. Cori (my daughter) loves seashells...so she went on a hunt for some beautiful shells and found a bunch! Meanwhile, my boys (Scott and Justin) went searching for sand crabs...and did they find them alright! Now I have the pictures I need for my "Surf's Up" chipboard mini album that I'm making and teaching in June!

Boy, do my kids grow up fast!!! So back to reality and back to business! June schedule should be posted this week. Check out our new classes and upcoming specials...

5-21-08 Blown Away

If you live in the Sacramento area you needed to hang on to your hat today. Boy was it windy!!! What a difference a few days make in the weather.
I think this card Marilea created is beautiful. She used Autumn Leaves patterned papers. The butterfly stamp is from a new acrylic set by Little Yellow Bicycle. I like how she stamped the butterflies with different color inks and added a little bling and sheer ribbon. Enjoy!

5-20-08 Safety Day and Saturday Make-n-Take

Last Saturday, we participated in the Stonelake Safety Day family event. Here's a picture of Renee setting up our booth. We offered two free make-n-takes -- one geared to the kids and one for adults. It was a HOT day, but the Stonelake Community Association kept us well stocked with ice cold water. Participants included local agencies (fire, police, water, etc.) and businesses. Kids were able to get their face painted, tour a fire truck and play in a jump house. Fun!!!

On another note, we invite you to come by the shop this Saturday between 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. for our free Make-n-Take card. We usually have our Make-n-Take on Monday, but we'll be closed on Monday, May 26th in observance of Memorial Day. Stop in and enjoy a Saturday Make-n-Take!

5-19-08 Where the Boys Are

Love that movie! But the "Boys" I'm talking about are the ones in the background helping out the Girls at the shop. We're so lucky to have such supportive men in our lives. Here's a big shout out to Daniel, Marilea's husband. He's a computer guru and a HIT in our book! Thank you, Daniel!!!

5-18-08 From Collaborative Minds Come Great Ideas

Until then, please enjoy this card Marilea created using DCWV pet papers, chipboard, rub-ons and brackets made from the McGill Brackets punch. SMILE..it's contagious!

5-17-08 Armed Forces Day

The third Saturday in May is Armed Forces Day. On this day we celebrate and remember all the men and women who have served our Country. As mentioned in an earlier post, our very own Sommer used to wear a different hat when she served in the Army. Check out the post from May 9th for an Army layout she created.

Today we'd like to share a birthday layout Lisa designed for her son Ian's fifth birthday. I love how she used different Bo Bunny papers as the layers of the cake. Lisa used ribbon for the candles and Bo Bunny diecut stickers for embellishments. The title was created on the Pazzle machine.

5-15-08 National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day

Yes, it's true. There's actually a day set aside to honor the Chocolate Chip cookie (only one day I ask?)! So in honor of this sweet and yummy day here's a sweet baby layout Marilea created. She used Pink Paislee paper and diecuts to create the baby bib. She added vintage looking lace, buttons, and matching ric rac for the ties.

If you're in the mood to celebrate this day with a chocolate chip cookie stop by Port City Java on the way to the shop. And while you're at the shop sign up for our BAKER'S DOZEN CARD CLASS. It's this Saturday from 10 - 2. You'll make 13 delicious cards (no calories and we've done most of the prep). It's a great way to make a quick batch of wonderful cards!

5-13-08 Keeping Cool

It's supposed to be hitting the 100 degree mark later this week. I guess summer weather is approaching whether we like it or not. For some of us lucky ones, we can stay inside, keep cool, and get a head start on our vacation layouts. If your summer plans include a cruise, check out Sommer's Cruising layout. She used Moxie's new papers --Anchors Away and All Inclusive. I love the anchors and the title she created on the Pazzle. Sommer used a see-thru ruler to create the waves.

And just remember that even if your plans don't include a cruise...there's always the Travel channel. Stay cool...

5-8-08 Sommer's First Mother's Day

We wanted to be the first to wish Sommer, one of our Creative Designers, a Happy First Mother's Day! Sommer wears many hats, but we're sure one of her proudest hats is that of Mom to darling Kaitlyn. Happy Mother's Day, Sommer!
Here's a layout Sommer created. She wore a different hat when she served in the Army.
May all Mothers everywhere have a Happy Mother's Day!

5-6-08 We're All Teachers

Today is the official "Day of the Teacher". I've come to realize that all of us "Girls" at the shop are teachers (as well as students). We learn from each other, we encourage each other, and we celebrate our creative discoveries. Our learning environment is nurtured by Debbie and Renee. When anyone of us has an idea for a card, layout or project, Debbie and Renee always say, "Go for it!" I think our customers benefit from this enthusiasm. Let me know what you think.
In the meantime, enjoy a card Lisa created using Pink Paislee papers and embellishments.

5-5-08 A Fun Time

We had a great time on Saturday at the shop celebrating National Scrapbooking Day. There were just enough kits for the Word Book and the page layout classes. People stopped by througout the day to take the classes. Everyone who purchased goodies (all at 25% off) picked out a "Crown" coin from the treasure chest for a future discounted shopping spree. Lots of fun had by all!
On another note, I wanted to share Lisa's layout of her husband, Sean, who you read about in an earlier post. Look closely at the Navy Hero wording. I think she crossed something out and added her own sentiment!

Join in the celebration at the shop today -- a SALE, fun classes and a surprise or two!

Lisa scrapbooked this frame using Elsie's Claire Girl Time fabric sheets, DCWV glitter paper and a Petaloo flower. The two "Rock Stars" are Lisa's daughter, Erin, and her BFF, Michaela. So cute!
