Memorial Day is not just another excuse for a three day weekend. It's a day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice serving their country so that we and others may enjoy the benefits of liberty that they so much loved, protected and defended. This memorial day I'm remembering some of my fallen comrades: William Brennan, Christopher Johnson and Matthew Mattingly.
We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies. (By Moina Michael)

Wedding Anniversary
Deniz and I are celebrating our 5th Anniversary today!!! Yes we are still pretty much newlyweds :-) I know there is a list of traditional gifts that spouses exchange but I never knew where this originated. Just to let you newlyweds know, your first anniversary is paper!!! Can you say shopping spree at Scrap-n-Stamp:-) So here is what I found on Wikipedia:
These gifts vary in different countries but now common to most nations, - 5th Wooden, 10th Tin, 15th Crystal, 20th China, 25th Silver, 30th Pearl, 40th Ruby, 50th Golden, 60th Diamond. The tradition may have originated in medieval Germany where, if a married couple lived to celebrate the twenty fifth anniversary of their wedding, the wife was presented by her friends and neighbours with a silver wreath, partly to congratulate them for the good fortune. On celebration of the fiftieth the wife received a wreath of gold. These anniversaries were known as the silver wedding-day and the golden wedding-day. Over time the number of symbols expanded and the German tradition came to assign gifts that had direct connections with each stage of married life.

Kaitlyns bling...
Well this year I have just felt so overwhelmed with Owen and Kaitlyn I totally didn't get around to making Mother's Day cards. So I thought it would be a good idea to have Kaitlyn make the cards for her grandma's. Which worked out great, until yesterday Kaitlyn got one of the cards that she had previously made and took all the bling off. At first I didn't think anything of it, she was just putting the little sticky gems on her finger nails, then a few minutes later she had come up to me and said "Mama, Kait put Bling in my eear". So I took her in the bathroom and took a look, sure enough there were two little gems in there. I was able to get one out, but the other one was too deep. So off to the doctor we went for "Bling Removal". You think they would be able to get it, nope had to make an appointment with a EN & T Doctor. Fortunately he was able to get the bling out ;-) Not so funny yesterday, but makes me smile today. I don't think Kaitlyn will be putting anything in her ears ever again. Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day.

Happy Mother's Day
Happy Mother's Day Ladies. The girls at Scrap-n-Stamp hope you all have a wonderful relaxing Mother's Day!!!
Just a little Mother's Day history for you: On May 8, 1914, the U.S. Congress passed a law designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day and requesting a proclamation. On May 9, 1914, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation, declaring the first national Mother's Day, as a day for American citizens to show the flag in honor of those mothers whose sons had died in war.
